8U Gold – Kyle Rayl

Coach Rayl grew up in Ft. Wayne before attending Anderson University where he played baseball for four years. Coach Rayl was the starting catcher for 3 seasons and fell in love with baseball during that time. He graduated from Anderson in 2003 and decided to stay on and coach for the next 5 years. After his time at Anderson University, Coach Rayl spent two seasons at Coker College, a Division II school in Harstville, SC. His last stop in his collegiate coaching career took him to Ann Arbor, Michigan where he was the head baseball coach for four years at Concordia University, an NAIA school. Coach Rayl currently lives in Noblesville with his wife Jenna and their two children, Tynley and Jacoby.

9U Gold – Joe Butor

Coach Butor is returning for his third year with Indiana Nitro. Coach Butor was a 3 year starting varsity shortstop and pitcher in high school and lead his team in every offensive category his senior year and was selected as a first team All Lake Athletic Conference player. He was offered baseball scholarships to a few small colleges after high school but chose to pursue his Engineering Degree at Purdue instead of chasing the baseball dream. He has been coaching youth baseball for over 12 years, including 4 years as a competitive travel coach. Coach Butor lives in Noblesville with Melissa, his wife of 12 years, and two boys, Ben and Jack.

10U Gold – Rodney Wilson

Coach Wilson has played baseball for more than 40 years, including the IBL for the last 14 years. He played 4 years of baseball at Grand Valley State University, earning All-Conference and All-Academic honors. Through the years following college, along with playing in adult leagues, he has also coached Connie Mack, JV, middle school, and travel baseball teams. Coach Wilson’s goal is to help young players develop the fundamentals and skills to succeed on and off the field, which will create an excitement for the game and a desire to keep playing. He has 22 years of teaching experience and has been a teacher in Westfield for the last 15 years. He currently lives in Noblesville with his wife, Jennifer, and two sons, Jaxson (12) and Cameron (15).

10U Cardinal – Mike Birsa

Mike Birsa will be coaching his first year in the Indiana Nitro organization. He resides in the Fishers area with his wife, Carla, and two children, Nathan and Logan. They moved to the area five years ago from the suburbs of Chicago. He attended St. Laurence High School and went on to play collegiately at Northern Illinois University. He was named NCAA All Region his senior year and All Conference his Junior and Senior years. While he was earning his degree after his college career, he was a graduate assistant for Kishwaukee Community College, coaching the catchers and working with the team as a hitting instructor. He did still play until the age of 30 with a Chicago based team called Prairie Gravel. He has spent the last three years coaching youth baseball including a 7U travel team. His goals are to have fun, develop players, and build character.

11U Gold – Chris Hodges

Coach Hodges will be returning for his 4th season with Indiana Nitro. Coach Hodges grew up in southeastern Kentucky, where he played baseball, basketball, and football. After high school he decided to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he was an infantry squad leader. He left the Marines after a combat tour in Iraq in 2003, and he moved from California to Noblesville to be with his family. Hodges has an associate degree in management and is a certified fitness trainer. Coach Hodges has coached youth sports in soccer, softball, basketball and baseball for 12 years. In the offseason he works for Davis Baseball as a coach for the bat speed and hitting programs. He is also a hunting guide for wounded veteran warriors. Coach Hodges’ philosophy is that the season is made in the offseason, be great at the small things and they turn into big things! Coach Hodges resides in Noblesville with his wife Jennifer and their three children Riley (15), Slade (10), Trace (3).

11U Cardinal – Kirk Koon

Coach Koon has over a decade of experience coaching youth baseball and football. He has coached both sports at the K – 6 grade levels for Mooresville (Board Member Football), CYO – St. Luke (Football), and Fishers/HSE (Baseball and Football). Coach Koon graduated from Milton-Union High School in West Milton, OH. While in high school, he was a 3 year letterman in football and a 2 year letterman in wrestling. He was voted team captain for his leadership on the football field. He then went on the play football at Butler University as a linebacker before completing 6 years of service in the Navy and then transferring to IUPUI to complete degrees in Electrical Engineering Technology and Organizational Leadership and Supervision. Coach Koon’s coaching philosophy focuses on preparation and fundamentals. Developing players who play hard and become good young men on and off the field is his passion. Coach Koon works as a senior engineer at Roche Diagnostics and lives in Fishers with his wife Mary and two sons Joel and William.

12U Gold – Jason Mavrick
Coach Mavrick is entering his 4th season with Indiana Nitro. Mavrick brings 20+ years of coaching experience. In addition to his many years of baseball experience, he also spent 6 years coaching softball and 6 years as the Kokomo Middle School Golf Coach. Coach Mavrick resides in Kokomo, IN with his wife Kelly and their three children, Lucy, Molly and Charlie. He currently works as the Supply Chain Manager for Delphi Technologies.

12U Cardinal – Michael Adkins
Coach Adkins is returning for his second year as a head coach with Indiana Nitro. Coach Adkins graduated from Westfield High School in 1995 and went on to play baseball at Glen Oaks Community College. He finished his college career at Western Michigan University with a degree in computer information systems. Coach Adkins is employed by the US Department of Defense as a lead application developer. He has coached youth baseball for the last 8 years, including travel baseball and currently the head junior high baseball coach at Traders Point Christian Academy. Coach Adkins, his wife Tonya and son Ryne (12) currently reside in Zionsville.

13U Gold – Jeff Cummings

Coach Cummings is joining Indiana Nitro from Fishers Youth Baseball where he has been coaching travel baseball for the past six years. Prior to coaching travel baseball, Jeff coached baseball at Warren Central High School for 11 years and middle school football and basketball for 13 years. Currently, Jeff is the Athletic Director at Stonybroook Middle School. Jeff, his wife Lori, and their kids’ Tessa (16) and Easton (13) reside in Fishers.

13U Cardinal  – Andrew Cornell

Having spent the previous nine years as a coach in the Noblesville Youth Baseball travel and recreational programs, Coach Cornell was previously a youth baseball coach in Fishers for four years as well as the Freshman Head Coach at Twin Lakes High School. Most recently, he served as the Head Coach for both the 11U and 12U Noblesville Black travel teams. He is also a member of the Noblesville Millers Travel Council which oversees the 8U - 12U travel program. Initially recruited to play QB on the football team at the University of Louisville, Andrew transferred and became a four-year starter at OF / P at Butler University where he was Freshman Player of the Year, All-Newcomer Team selection, 2nd Team All-MCC, and a 3-time GTE Academic All-American. A dual sport athlete (four-year football player), upon graduation Andrew ranked 2nd in career hits, 2nd in career triples, and tied for most hits in a single game with five. He also hit 15 home runs in a wooden bat summer league with the Rochester Honkers in 1994. Andrew is currently a Senior Vice President of Wealth Management at UBS Financial Services, and lives in Noblesville with his wife Lori and four children Chaney, Jackson, Maddux, and Dawson.

14U Gold – Isaac Turner

This will be Coach Turner's 4th year of coaching, his first with Indiana Nitro. Coach Turner is currently a varsity assistant at Kokomo High School. He has spent the last three summers coaching Legion Baseball. Coach Turner played High School Baseball at Kokomo High School were he lettered every year. He went on to play baseball at Anderson University for three full seasons. During his time at Anderson, they won a conference championship and Coach Turner ended up in the record books for multiple accolades. Due to injuries, he had to forego his senior season and then opted to get into coaching. Coach Turner's coaching philosophy is very simple... to build and develop players to become outstanding baseball players as well as outstanding young men in their community.

14U Cardinal – Cameron Gross
Coach Gross is embarking on his first season with Indiana Nitro. Coach Gross was raised in Greenwood, Indiana and played for Center Grove High School where he graduated in 2017.  Coach Gross played college baseball  under legendary head coach Lance Hershberger at Ivy Tech Community College and finished his college career at Indiana University South Bend under head coach Doug Buysse.  One of Coach Gross’ major accomplishments in college was that he never made an error while playing outfield in his collegiate career where he specializes.  Coach Gross also works as a private hitting instructor and lives in Indianapolis, Indiana.

15U Gold – Mitch Gibson
Coach Gibson is going into 5th year of coaching and 3rd summer with Indiana Nitro. Coach Gibson graduated in 2014 from Greenfield Central High School in Greenfield, Indiana. He was a 4 year varsity starter for the Cougars. He received many accolades in his high school career including, All-Conference all 4 years, Most Valuable Player senior year, All-State Senior Year, and setting an IHSAA record for saves in a season as a closer with 13. After a very successful high school career, Gibson went on to play collegiately at Ball State University as a Pitcher/Middle Infielder. As a freshman and sophomore, Gibson made over 30 appearances finishing 3rd on the team in ERA. Coach Gibson graduated from Ball State in 2018 with a degree in Telecommunications. He currently works as an Insurance agent for HRM Insurance Services focusing on Commercial Insurance. Fresh out of college in 2018, Gibson served as an assistant coach for 2 years at Pendleton Heights before coming over to Indiana Nitro. The game of baseball is a lifestyle for the Gibson family as his dad (Mike Gibson) coached baseball for over 20 years including 11 seasons at Mt. Vernon High School, two oldest brothers, Austin & Taylor who played college baseball at Marian University, a younger brother Lucas who currently plays at Midway University. Gibson resides in Greenfield, Indiana with his wife Shelby and daughters Brooklynn (5) and Hadley (2).

15U Cardinal – Ryan Burkhart
Coach Burkhart is in his 14th year of coaching and will be entering his 8th season with Indiana Nitro. Ryan spent two summers as an assistant with Nitro's heralded class of 2021 Gold team, and next summer will be his fifth stint as a head coach with Nitro. Coach Burkhart was head 7th grade coach for Carmel Clay schools for 3 years and assistant with Tipton High School for 2 seasons. Before moving to Indiana, Ryan coached for 6 years with George C. Marshall High School and Falls Church American Legion. Prior to starting his coaching career, Ryan was a four year letterman for Tri-Village High School (New Madison, OH) and was a pitcher for Defiance College for 2 years where he majored in Secondary Education; Integrated Mathematics. Coach Burkhart emphasizes playing aggressively with attention to detail, thinking ahead between pitches so instincts can take over during the play, and teaching players to set new and higher standards for themselves to help prepare them to go onto the next level. Ryan is a math teacher and lives in Carmel with his wife, Elizabeth. They have a son Will that attends West Clay Elementary and a preschool aged daughter named Jackie.

15U White – Paul Gonzalez
Coach Gonzalez will be going into his 6th year coaching and his first with Indiana Nitro.  Coach Gonzalez graduated from McCutcheon High School in Lafayette, where he played 4yrs of baseball and captured 2 sectionals championships, 1 regional championship and a semi state appearance.  He was offered baseball scholarships to small colleges, but instead pursued the workforce and decide to go straight into coach travel baseball with McCutcheon.  He then moved to Indianapolis area where he went on to coach 3 years in youth travel baseball with the Indiana Bulls.  He resides in Fishers, Indiana with his wife Amber and his two boys, Greyson and Zayden.

16U Gold - Tim Burns

Coach Burns is the very first coach Indiana Nitro had, when they started with just one 11U team in 2010, the organization’s first year. That team went on to win over 50 games and 5 championships, and amazingly, also had 11 of those 12 players go on to play at the collegiate level. He has taken two teams to Cooperstown, winning one title and falling short as a runner-up in the other. He is the organization’s founder, and to this day, his mantra of developing coaches to develop players is still the focus. Burns has more than 17 years of coaching youth baseball and football, as well as assisting coaches with training year around. Burns, a Ball State University grad, works in sales for FOX Sports Indiana, and is married to his wife Tammy. They have two sons, Brendan and Brock, who were both long-time Indiana Nitro players. Burns recently coached the 17U Gold team in 2020 to a 31-6 record with two championships, and will move to 16U Gold in 2021.

16U Cardinal – Steven Swinson
Coach Swinson begins his 1st year with Indiana Nitro. Coach Swinson has 20+ years of experience as a baseball coach serving as the varsity head coach at Eastern Greentown High School and an assistant varsity coach at Northwestern High School (2005 State Runner-Up) working with catchers and outfielders. Coach Swinson also coached as an assistant at Marion High School serving as the pitching coach. He also spent a couple years organizing and head coaching the Kokomo Longhorns travel baseball team in central Indiana. Currently, Coach Swinson coaches at Indiana Wesleyan University as an assistant football coach. He is a graduate of Kokomo High School and working as a supervisor / foreman in Howard County for the past 26 years. Coach Swinson currently lives in the Kokomo area with his wife Stacey of 28 years. They have two children, son Saxon 27 and daughter Shayden 17.

17U Gold – Brandon Weems

Coach Weems has been coaching travel and high school baseball for 9 years since completing his degree (Accounting and Finance) at the Kelley School of Business (IUPUI). He also holds a Masters in Sports Management from UIndy. As a high school player at Springfield North (OH), he was a two year letter-winner and Academic All-Conference selection and a member of teams who won 100+ games in 4 years. Coach Weems’ focus is on making sure his teams are mentally as well as physically prepared to play at a high level. He is currently the Head Coach at Pike High School and works with infielders and hitters, as well as pitchers. In addition to coaching, Weems is a Business Teacher at Pike High School after working 10 years as an accountant in the public and private sectors. He lives in Indianapolis with his wife Dionne and their sons Carter (6) and Andrew (3).

17U Cardinal – Jonathon Drumwright

Coach Drumwright is going on year 4 with Indiana Nitro and his 6th year coaching overall. He started his Nitro coaching career as the assistant coach for Tim Burns at 14U in 2017 and is now currently the JV Head Coach for Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. Coach Drumwright has been playing or coaching baseball since the age of 3 and is a graduate of Brownsburg High School in 2007. He played baseball at Dakota College in North Dakota as a pitcher before returning to Indiana to begin his coaching career. He currently resides in Whitestown with his wife, Alyssa, and daughter, RaeLynn.
